WAC Building Closure

As disappointing and inconvenient as this is, this decision to close the WAC building is being made for the safety of everyone. At this point in the remodel, there are concerns about potential structural instability, and we simply cannot take any chances with the well-being of our members and volunteers.

For the time being, access to the building will be limited to essential personnel. The lock box will be removed from the back door but will be replaced once we receive permission to occupy WAC from the contractor.

I know this is a challenge for us in the construction process but not unexpected in that the building is old and many hands have been at work remodeling things over the past years which are often not up to today’s building codes. We appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and understanding. We will eventually be able to welcome everyone back into the building once these concerns have been resolved and we are assured that it is safe to do so.

If you require access to WAC, please contact Pam Plummer, WAC President.

Due to the building closure the following activities are cancelled until further notice:

  • Painting and Drawing Group meetings
  • Open Studio
  • Volunteer Gallery Sitters
  • Summer at the Movies
  • West of Center intake of art will be relocated to another location — TBA soon

Thank you all for your continued support as we work our way through this next phase of the Building a Dream remodel. We may have encountered a few more bumps in the road than we anticipated, but we will get through them together.

WAC Members Inspire the Next Generation of Ceramic Artists

Wickenburg Art Club members Marcie Nowak and Carla Fite are helping bring ceramics to life for students at Mountainside High School in Wittmann. Working alongside the school's art teacher, they have been teaching approximately 75 students across three classes the fundamentals of hand-building techniques, including pinch pots, coil pots, and slab construction.

Their contributions extend beyond the classroom. Marcie and Carla have played an important role in helping establish the school's ceramics program by assisting with curriculum development, organizing inventory, and even helping repair the kiln.

Marcie's passion for clay began in high school in 1968 and has continued throughout her life. She has expanded her skills through workshops in Colorado and New Mexico and joined the Wickenburg Art Club shortly after moving to Wickenburg in November 2020. She describes WAC as a welcoming home base that has supported her growth as an artist.

Carla joined WAC in 2018 after responding to an advertisement in the Wickenburg Sun promoting art classes. She quickly discovered a love for working with clay and became an active member of the club.

Both women credit the Wickenburg Art Club with providing the encouragement, support, and creative opportunities that have helped them explore new artistic directions. Through their volunteer efforts at Whitman High School, they are now passing that same spirit of learning and artistic exploration on to the next generation of artists.

Please Help Us Reach Our Mask Making Goal

Our goal is to make 200 masks for the Paws & Paintbrushes Mystery Masquerade. The mask tracker on the right shows our current progress toward this goal.

We have a mask making station set up at WAC, filled with masks, paint, glitter, feathers and all kinds of fun embellishments.

We invite you to stop by and make a mask or two for this fundraiser event. You can stop in any time to make a mask on site, or take a mask with you to work on at home!

Masks are also now on sale at WAC for a minimum donation of $20 each.

All proceeds will go to the fundraiser, which benefits both WAC and K9 Konnections.
