What Does It Take to Change a Life?
By Lynn Taggee
A young woman once joined the art club hoping to supplement her family’s income. With encouragement and support, she learned to use an old sewing machine to create leather goods. Through persistence and support of friends in the art club, she built a successful business, selling locally and online.
The club also received a grant to offer art lessons for veterans. What began as a six-week program grew into a lasting subgroup, providing veterans with connection, creativity, and continued encouragement.
An older woman with no art experience hesitantly enrolled in a beginner class. With support from fellow members, she discovered her talent, won a Best in Show award within a year, and began receiving commissions.
These stories are not unusual. For more than sixty years, Wickenburg Art Club has nurtured creativity in people of all ages and abilities. It is a welcoming community where beginners, professionals, veterans, youth, and retirees alike find encouragement, opportunity, and connection.
Art gives children a voice, offers healing to veterans, provides expression for those with challenges, and opens new beginnings for retirees. Art is inclusive, powerful, and life changing.
