About this event
"A Taste of Printmaking without a Printing Press - Three Class Series"
Have you always wanted to try printmaking but didn't know where to start? This series of classes is ideal for those who have limited experience and want to taste the varied and intricate art of printmaking!
This workshop series is made up of three "a la carte" classes, "A Taste of Printmaking: Collagraphs", "A Taste of Printmaking: Monotypes", and "A Taste of Printmaking: Drypoint", that will be held on Wednesday mornings in January.
Collographs-Jan. 8, 2025
In this method, you'll create unique textures and patterns by affixing an assortment of materials, such as paper fabric, string, or even found objects, to a rigid substrate like cardboard. The result is a highly textured printing plate that, when inked and pressed onto paper, produces prints with rich, intricate surfaces that showcase the tactile qualities of the materials used.
Monotypes-Jan.15, 2025
A unique print typically painterly in effect, made by applying paint or printing ink to a plastic plate. The painted image is transferred to paper by manual rubbing. Mediums are applied to the plate using two different methods. There are different techniques to cover the plate and the image is formed by manipulating and removing the ink or paint using a variety of tools, including brushes or the artist's fingers.
Drypoint-Jan.22nd, 2025
An intaglio printmaking technique that creates sharp lines with fuzzy velvety edges. A diamond-pointed needle is used to incise lines directly into a bare metal printing plate. Inking fills the incised lines. Damp paper is placed on the plate and then manually rubbed to get a beautiful print. Watercolor or colored pencil can then be used to enhance the print.
All materials will be provided.
