Dan and Stan completed their portrait art series in class. Here are their results from pencil, acrylic, and mixed media of alcohol inks and watercolor.
The lesson was to learn grid drawing from a photograph using pencils. Then use graphic paper on canvas to transfer photo; then learn about mixing acrylic paint for various skin tones and apply that knowledge on their acrylic portrait. The mixed media portrait takes their acrylic knowledge to another level.
They learned how to use Grafix plastic and a light tray to transfer portrait image, then using alcohol inks; normally alcohol inks have been used in mostly craft projects such as card, tiles etc., but the goal was to take alcohol inks into a fine art medium. Thus learned how to mix alcohol inks for skin tones, using paint brushes, blending solutions and alcohol pens, air compressor to move the inks around for special effects, and watercolor pencils with brushes and water to blend the watercolor into desired effects as well.
